ALGIERS- Historical Fiction “Zabana !” by Director Said Ould Khelifa, dedicated to the first beheaded martyr of the Algerian cause Ahmed Zabana who was guillotined on 19 June 1956, was screened Thursday in Algiers in world premiere, a presentation intended for officials and cinema professionals.
Produced by Laith Media "Zabana !" is the first work of a program developed by the ministry of Culture and the ministry of Mujahideen. The screenplay was written by Azzedine Mihoubi.
Focused on personality, career and trial of the activist, the movie screened Wednesday for reporters, tells about the attack carried out by the Algerian activists, including Zabana, against the Post office of Oran in April 1949.
The movie shed light on the militant’s role in the preparation for the liberation war in Oran.
“Zabana !” movie will be on competition on September 6 at the International Film Festival of Toronto Canada), and will be present at the Dubai Film Festival, its producer Yacine Laloui said. The movie’s domestic distribution, still in negotiation, is scheduled for upcoming October.
